The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of the field

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.
